      Once you have found your subject and /or your niche within that subject then its time to start thinking about a domain name. The domain name for example ;( www.dogfitness.com) is the introduction to your Internet business. It is what all of your hard work will be associated with. It may be around and represent you professionally for many years to come. It will be one of the most important key words or phrases that enable your business to be located by search engines. It may even appear or be heard on various other forms of media such as newspapers, radio or even television. So yes, the domain name you choose is very important.

There are about three different kinds of names to choose from. First let’s talk about generic names. These names are usually self-explanatory of the content of a website for example; (www.carparts.com). These names are good for search engine results and travel somewhat faster by word of mouth. A generic name is also much easier to sell to a potential buyer. Next there is what I call brand or invented names; for example: (siegergewinnspiele.com). These names are used to create trust and loyalty in their audience by providing specific types of products or services. A problem with these names is that they are very hard to get established because they don’t explain what they are about. Finally there is what are known as vanity names. These names usually state a persons name for example; (www. Michael Brown.com). These kinds of names can build better loyalty and are hard to copy but can cause a problem when one is trying to sell the website.

                             Keep it simple and respectable

       While choosing one of the types of names ask yourself questions like; Will I want to sell in the future? If the site becomes a big success do I want to gain personal fame? Do I want to mainly to concentrate on promoting a product or service? How fast do I need results? Who will my business associates be? And, Will they accept my domain name professionally?

   

When creating a domain name be very careful about spelling. Try not to misspell words or play with the meanings. Remember people don’t want to do too much unnecessary work trying to find your website. Try to keep it short and easy. Try to avoid hyphens or any other confusing symbols. Avoid numbers as much as possible or trading out numbers for words, for example; the word (for) compared to (4) or letter trading, for example; (kids) compared to (kidz). Although you want to keep it short you should also avoid abbreviations or initials because most readers don’t remember them and could get easily confused and frustrated by them.
