RSS

                          What is an RSS reader?

RSS stands for Rich Site Summary or RDF Site summary and is used for the purpose of publishing frequently updated content such as blogs or news updates. Simply, this is a tool used by a publisher to get his or her new content out to their followers automatically like a radio cast. An RSS reader is the software the follower would need in order to receive this updated content. On the internet there are many millions of blogs and news pages. That is of course overwhelming. To keep track with the steadily out coming news it is a lot of work. It is also very time consuming to visit every day your own favourite pages and to search for the newest announcements. Instead of visiting all these sites every day, you have the possibility with RSS to receive all important news on one page. Therefore you have an overview on one page and you won’t waste your time with pages which still didn’t update their reports anyway. It is faster, clearer and much more modern to use a RSS reader. Therefore you can receive all the information on one page. Now one should decide for a RSS reader RSS page. You can choose from a huge selection, among Google Reader, Omea Reader,Newz Crawler, Bloglines, Newsgator, Yahoo Reader and lots more. Let’s take as an example Google Reader, for it you will need a Google account. Register yourself or immediately log in quite simply under www.Google.com/reader/view. If you don’t have a Google account, you have to briefly register yourself. After that you can select which pages you want to subscribe. In our example we take the page www.BBC.com/news.Immediately on the homepage, completely on top on the right side we see the orange RSS symbol. At this point you should click on it and then press subscribe now. Select this RSS feed and subscribe with Google. Now immediately you will be redirected to your Google reader page and once more you should select the BBC news with the confirm button. That’s how easy it was to select the desired page. Now at any time you can find the news of BBC under all items. On some pages you will find a code, instead of the orange RSS symbol. In this case if you want to subscribe to such a site, you should copy the URL and insert the Feed-URL under subscribing

and push add on the Google page. Then under the segment of subscription you have a nice overview of all your selected pages. Maybe some other pages still have other symbols to subscribe but the principle is always same. It is actually quite simple if you have tried it once, and it really saves you a lot of time. You will love it and won’t want to miss it anymore, because thereby you really have a great overview of your desired articles. Still a small tip if you are not sure to which pages you should subscribe.

Under:       http://www.thefreedictionary.com/_/rss-directory.htm you can find great pages to select from and all free of charge. Or you can look yourself under RSS lists, for example under Google.

Have fun trying it.
