 S.E.O. stands for Search Engine Optimization. It is the strategy web masters use to improve ranking in the search engines. This strategy may include editing content, creating back links or identifying and concentrating on specific key words or key word phrases. There are two recognized methods of S.E.O. The first is the White Hat technique which is based on building useful content for the visitor. White Hat S.E.O. is usually is done so that the site builds links that are recognized as good quality links by the search engines. Black Hat S.E.O. is most of the time something done "shady" or " not on the up and up "to get quick ranking but not offering much in the way of quality for a user.The most commonly known way to achieve quality white hat S.E.O. is through blogs and forums. Posting a comment and writing articles can create many positive back links by simply having a link to your page embedded in the comment or article.The next way is to use directories such as Yahoo directory. These help search engines find your webpage based on the information a user is looking for. A directory lists a website under specific categories so that the site can gain targeted traffic flow. Basically a directory is a telephone book for websites.

Something a little more modern is the use of Web 2.0 profiles. These allow users to participate and interact with the information given to them. A few examples are video posts that allow users to judge or give an opinion about what's being broadcast. Another is hosted service sites which offer a user a service while Informing them through out the use of the service how the service can best be applied. Allowing the user to give feed back enhances the experience and quality of the service. The option to follow a certain profile would be interesting to the host or owner of the site.
